When it comes to treating dry eye symptoms, a number of options exist.
Depending on the exact cause, our eye doctors can recommend a few over-the-counter options, including heat masks and omega-3 supplements to help with healthy oil production from the meibomian glands. Eyelid scrubs, artificial tears, tear gels and lubricant ointments are also effective options that we may recommend. If we decide you nee to go the over-the-counter route, we can recommend certain types and brands at the end of your dry eye evaluation.
In more serious cases of dry eye syndrome, we also offer a number of specialty in-office procedures, including punctal plugs. These block the part of your eye responsible for the outflow of tears, keeping those tears on your eye (and therefore hydrating the eye) longer.
We may also promote regenerative healing of the eye with amniotic membrane therapy and Atalaga serum.
Other treatments may include cyclosporine drops such as Restasis or Zedra, radio-frequency treatment, and testosterone creams and ointments.
